Our trip to Sunrise was a little wet, but very successful mainly due to all of you that came to walk with us. Thank you so much for taking the time to hold a child's hand along our very busy Scott Blvd. I truly appreciate your help.
What a fun 4 days we had in Kindergarten leading up to our winter vacation. Monday and Tuesday our book buddies read with us and worked on making cards for the residents of Sunrise. During Math on Wednesday and Thursday, we played games together. The children enjoyed playing War, Checkers, Sequence, Dreidel, and Make 10. You could get out a deck of playing cards and play War or find ways to make 10. Does 4+4+2=10? How many ways can you find? On Friday we did three experiments together. The children love Mystery Doug on the computer. His question last week was, Why is snow white? Ask your child if they can remember what we did to show why. We also made rainbows with Skittles and determined that warm water dissolves a candy cane faster than vinegar or cool water. We had fun making a hypothesis and then discussing the results. On Friday we made forts and read Mo Willems and Dr Seuss books together. It is fun to break the routine every once in a while. Our trip to Sunrise was a little wet, but very successful mainly due to all of you that came to walk with us. Thank you so much for taking the time to hold a child's hand along our very busy Scott Blvd. I truly appreciate your help. May you have a wonderful break from regular life with your families. Laugh, listen, read, play and enjoy one another. As I think about my life and 2017, I am so grateful for you and my connections to the Westchester neighborhood. I truly love working in Decatur and seeing all of you as I walk around my town. You make my life full and meaningful. You bring light to my life.

About meI grew up in Florida and have lived in Decatur since arriving at Agnes Scott College to get my Mathematics degree. After teaching High School math for a few years, I worked at preschools while raising my 3 sons. I obtained a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education and taught in Dekalb and Gwinnett Counties for 10 years before coming to Westchester when it reopened in 2013. Archives
