Next week we will learn about families. Thank you in advance for sending in a family picture on your child's special share day. (the bag and note came home on Thursday) We will talk about how families are alike and different. We will also be working on learning our address. Can you help your child look for the number for your house/apt. on the mailbox? Can you talk about how we live on a street, in a city, in a state, and in a country? Thank you so much for reading my blog and helping your child love school and learning. I truly love my job and look forward each day to seeing your children.
Well, by the time you receive this I hope we are finished with the first MAP testing sequence. Your children have done great! Some of them have loved it and some of them gave me a 'shaky thumb' when asked how it went, but now it is over. Please understand that this is a base line. We realize that they are only 5 years old and that this was the first time they had taken a 'test'. We will use the results to help guide our teaching, but we also look at many other assessments and conversations as we plan our teaching. Kindergarteners are wonderful and I love getting to know them. Here are some pictures of the children enjoying Spanish and Music. The teachers use a lot of movement during their lessons. The children are able to dance and walk as they learn new skills. It is a joy for me to watch these wonderful teachers. Of course we went outside to recess everyday this week. The weather was wonderful. We climbed, made new friends, and created fairy houses. Decatur is a great place to grow up. We write every day. I was so thrilled to see the sentence above, "I can go all the way under deep water". What a wonderful small moment from his life. We continue to write stories from our lives. Some of the children are labeling and some have begun to write short sentences. Encourage your child to write at home. Ask them about the letters we are practicing in Fundations; b,t,f,m,n,i,u. Can they tell you words that start with some of these letters? Can they show you how to write them (always start at the top)?

About meI grew up in Florida and have lived in Decatur since arriving at Agnes Scott College to get my Mathematics degree. After teaching High School math for a few years, I worked at preschools while raising my 3 sons. I obtained a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education and taught in Dekalb and Gwinnett Counties for 10 years before coming to Westchester when it reopened in 2013. Archives
