Have a wonderful weekend. It looks like it will be cold, but at least not raining. Next week looks like a lot of rain! Boohoo for me and my babies.
What a great week back after our Winter Break. We learned a new word: Oviparous, which means hatches from an egg. We talked about how animals can be placed in categories and one way is oviparous and viviparous. The children sorted animals/insects into the 2 categories and made 2 books about what hatches from an egg. This is extra exciting because I ordered the fertilized chicken eggs for our incubator! They should arrive next week. Everyone is so excited for this special experience. In math we started our new standards on adding and subtracting fluently within 5 and decomposing numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way. Gosh, that's a mouth full. Anyway, we are playing games to find ways to make a number. Ask your child if they can show you how to play "Bears in a cave". This week in Music the children started learning about the Ukulele. They were so excited as the day approached. Ms. Gwaltney is a saint to let 21 Kindergarteners play these together! I have no idea how she even tunes them all. On Tuesday we went on a little walk about to see the power of water. Due to the water main break on Clairmont our creek went over the banks and eroded the dirt. The children really enjoyed seeing this and then Maddie spotted a hawk watching us. What an amazing thing to see. Next week we will read many Dr. Seuss books. His birthday is March 2. If you have a favorite one that you can send in, that would be great. Many of the children can now read Hop on Pop and Green Eggs and Ham.
Have a wonderful weekend. It looks like it will be cold, but at least not raining. Next week looks like a lot of rain! Boohoo for me and my babies.
