Fall is always a blast in Kindergarten. Such excitement with the changes in weather, leaves falling and decorations everywhere. Last week we learned all about skeletons. Did your child tell you we have 206 bones in our body? How about, that babies have more bones than adults? The children made a skeleton with q-tips and practiced the song, Macarena Bones. They also made a book about animal skeletons. One favorite activity was making our own hand x-ray! The children really enjoy Mystery Doug. We listened to him teach us more about our bones and then followed the steps to make the x-ray. I hope your child could tell you about this project. They did a great job. We have also been working very hard to make our writing easy to read. Together we created an anchor chart to help with this task. The children are doing such a wonderful job. Our new board is a great help too. It is so easy to write on and is great during phonics. This week has been everything PUMPKIN! First we predicted whether the pumpkin would float or sink. We filled a tub with water outside and were amazed when that heavy thing floated. We went back in our room and tried many other things to see if they would float or sink. Such a fun science experiment. The next day we cut our pumpkin open and counted the seeds...wait for it...650 seeds! The children made groups of 10 seeds and then we walked around counting by 10's. So many seeds. I then took the seeds home and roasted them. Almost everyone liked the taste. Then we voted on the pumpkin face and carved the jack-o-lantern together. Tomorrow we will bake pumpkin cookies in our classroom. It has been a really great week. I hope you have a wonderful 3 day weekend. If it is nice weather, Mr. Wertz and I will be walking around your neighborhood on Sunday night looking for trick or treaters! Hope to see you. Just some pictures of float and sink. I always love to show the children the Pumpkin Regatta that happens up north. Racing in a pumpkin boat! How fun is that? Have some fun this weekend.
