We learned many facts about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln this week. The children drew Washington and made a book about Lincoln. Ask your child what they remember about 2 of our most famous Presidents. In math we continued our study of measurement. The children explored balance scales and sorted heavy things and light items. We also weighed ourselves. Next week will be our last week on this unit and we will look into capacity. In Science we did a float and sink experiment. It was fun to record our guess before dropping something into the water. In preparation for today's visit by Aimee Copeland, Ms. Cabrices spoke to the class about diversity and inclusion. She has a wonderful powerpoint talk to help young children move toward understanding children with different abilities. We also watched several videos that Aimee has made showing how she does typical tasks without hands or feet. The children had many questions and I did my best to inform them without creating anxiety. Today Ms. Copeland spoke and the children were a wonderful audience. She focused on how "if there is a will, there is a way". If you persevere, even when it is hard, you can do it. I hope you heard about her visit. Belle, her service dog, was with her. So exciting! (she has an amazing Foundation that you can read about on line) Next week we will read all about Valentine's Day and heart health with a little gravity mixed in. We will be exchanging Valentine cards on Thursday. Thank you for helping your child with this activity. Have a wonderful weekend. How could we be approaching winter break in only one week? Time flies in Kindergarten.
