Thank you so much for all my birthday presents and cards. I felt so loved. Also, thank you for the books and book fair money that you donated to the class. I read many new books last week! This class loves funny books. Reading books aloud is such a great pleasure for me.
We had a great week learning about birds. We started with what makes a bird a bird. Then looked at the life cycle of a bird. By observing closely, we realized that different beaks are used for eating different things. Hannah was the first person to see a bird at our bird feeder outside the window. The children continue to build knowledge about classifying animals. This week we will learn about reptiles! The children loved making birds. Math centers were focused on teen numbers. We will be adding comparing numbers next week. I have had several questions about books coming home. I read with your child each week and send a book home in a ziplock bag. During our group time, we work on heart words, phonics, letter formation and unknown words in the book. Your child should be able to read this book to you. The children also have a blue canvas bag that may contain books. The children have the opportunity to put new ARC books from our new literacy curriculum in this bag almost everyday. If these books have a yellow sticker on them, they are a repeating pattern. If the books have a green sticker, that is the next level and the text is harder. You can see in the back of the book a list of words that can be practiced in order to be more successful in reading the book. Anyway, please return the ziplock bag and the canvas bag to school either every day or every other day. You can put the ziplock bag into the canvas bag if that helps you to keep up with all the books. I am sorry if this is confusing. I truly am doing my best. We want children to have many books in their hands. Thank you so much for helping your child put the books back in their backpack. Mrs. Walsh brought bubbles for the children. It was so much fun. Tomorrow, Monday October 17, the Zoo Mobile is coming to teach the children about animals. I believe we will see some reptiles! Ask your child about the visit when they come home tomorrow.
