Everyday we work on phonics. Right now we are trying to use the digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh, and ck) correctly. Play word games with your child. Ask them to spell words with digraphs...mash, duck, chip, them, what. Thank you for helping at home. Next week we will be all about Dr. Seuss. His birthday is March 2. If your child has a special Dr. Seuss book that hey would like to bring to school that would be great. Please write their name on the book. Have a wonderful weekend. |
This week we have learned many facts about 2 special presidents. Ask your child what they remember about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. I hope they can tell you all about them. The children each drew George Washington and wrote something about him. Here you see, "George was our first President. I wish he was alive again." They also made a small book about Lincoln and added their own writing on the last page. I was not very excited about teaching about the presidents this week, but this group made it so much fun. They were so interested and enthusiastic. The children were so curious about Lincoln's height. We made a life size president. I love that they added the $5 bill and the penny! So cute to see them measuring to see how very tall he was. Because we have been doing a word problem every week this year, the children have become great at showing their work. I now tell them to make the number larger if they want a more challenging problem.
