I wanted you to know that our Celebration of Learning is scheduled for November 15 from 9-10:00am. This will be the culmination of our Kindness Expedition. The children will sing songs and tell about the learning we have done. We will then go to our classroom for a snack and to look at the book each child has created. This is a special time for your child, but I totally understand if only one parent can attend or if a substitute parent (grandad, grandma, auntie) comes to celebrate with your child. Please just let me know if you will not be there. Thank you so much for all you do.
I tried to write this blog last night, but could not figure out how to tell you how much fun we had this week. I will start with thanking you for sending in the apples. The children loved bringing them and comparing the color, size and type. They enjoyed choosing an apple to weigh, measuring the circumference, and draw. Here are some pictures of literacy centers from the week. We also tasted 3 types of apples. The majority of this class voted on Granny Smith as the best. This is a first for me. These children like tart apples. After tasting the apples we graphed the number of seeds. The children also enjoyed reading King Alice and First Grade Dropout both by Matthew Cordell. It was such a treat to have him visit Westchester. The children decorated crowns during library time and wore them to the visit. Our own Kinsley helped introduce the author. She did a great job. We finished our week with cooking apples in our room. The children used plastic knives to chop the apples into small pieces and then we cooked them in an electric wok. This is a wonderful 5 senses activity that I look forward to each year. I hope Kindergarten was a little magical this week. I sure had a lot of fun with your sweet kids. I have enjoyed meeting 12 of you for a conference. I look forward to meeting with the rest of you soon.
