I hope you have a wonderful week doing what you love. If you have time to email me a picture or two, that would be great. I am thankful for you and your precious children.
We started our week off with a bang! Simha's parents came on Monday morning to talk with us about Diwali. They brought a craft and a treat that are part of the celebration of the holiday. The children learned so much about Diwali and loved everything. It was so wonderful to learn more about Simha's story. On Tuesday we started the day with another exciting event...The Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. We have been preparing for this for several weeks, reading books and making our promises to be bridge builders. It was a lovely breezy fall day to take a walk over the small bridge behind our school. We will continue to cultivate the culture of building bridges all year. In math the children have been working hard on teen numbers. We have also been practicing one more and one less than a number. Dominos have been a big hit. Several children have asked if they could take them home! Amazing Thanksgiving fun...making butter, pinecone turkeys, poems, and books. Before making butter we talked about long ago and now. We read a book and watched a short video portraying Pilgrim life. The children worked collaboratively shaking the jar. ( like a butter churn). We then tasted the butter on a cracker. I just enjoy talking about cranberries and how they are often a part of the feast. Some children were brave enough to try a tiny sliver of cranberry sauce. Pinecone turkeys have no real value except that they are so cute. One recess I brought a small rake for the children to use. They had a wonderful time making a big pile of leaves. It took collaboration and perseverance to keep going and going. Children would come up to the pile and the workers would say, "No jumping! Not yet. We need it bigger!". The world is full of wonder. We are really looking forward to the Celebration of Learning tomorrow at 9:00, right after Community Circle. The children have practiced their lines and gone through their folder several times. Enjoy this sweet time with your child. Ask questions about what you see and help when needed. They love you so much.
