Have a wonderful rest of your weekend. I feel so thrilled to teach your children. This has been a special easy year for me. I am truly grateful.
This week we learned about life during the time of Martin Luther King Jr. We focused on how unfair things can be changed peacefully. The children thought about what peace means to them. I really enjoyed their ideas. They also worked together in a small group to create a poster entitled Peace Maker/ Peace Breaker. They then shared this with the class. In Science we have been learning about what is in the sky at night and what is in the sky during the day. This was a fun standard to cover as the lunar eclipse was approaching. The children loved making a diagram of this with a paper plate. I hope they shared this with you. In math we continue to work on measurement and data. We did take a break and grappled with this question this week, "How many rectangles can you make using 12 one inch squares?". The children decided if they wanted to work with a group or on their own. They were given 12 squares, graph paper and blank paper. I got this idea from a book called When Sophie Thinks she Can't. A great book about perseverance. And lastly I have to share some pictures of book buddies. The children are so excited when our 3rd grade friends come to read. They choose books before they arrive and then sit together and share an experience. I will miss the 3rd graders next year. Change is hard for me. Next week we will be talking about shadows because Groundhog day is next Saturday. I just think it is fun to learn about real groundhogs and read silly stories about groundhogs predicting the weather. Weather is such fun for young children. We will all be hoping for some snow on Tuesday. Fingers Crossed! Kids love snow.
