Just a few more pictures for fun.
Our 2nd field trip to the Wylde Center was a success. We saw many lovely flowers, a few bees and 2 chickens. I think the chickens were the favorite thing. Mr. Tom names all of his chickens Gloria, whether he has 2 or 14! Such a funny guy. The children knew so many facts about bees, Mr. Tom was very impressed. If you haven't visited the Wylde Center, maybe you can one day. It is open to the public anytime. Our math centers this week still focused on addition and subtraction with a graph mixed in. Ask your child to tell you ways to make 5 or 10. They are getting very good at showing different ways. We have also been completing our work for the Garden Expedition. Thank you for planning on attending our Celebration of Learning at 9:00 am on Wednesday, May 4. The children will sing 3 songs and possibly recite our Bee Poem and then share their portfolios with you. Please help them with this by asking, "Can you tell me about looking at the soil?, Did you hold a real worm?, What does the garden need? What was your favorite part of learning about the garden?, Can you tell me an interesting fact about honey bees?". They have learned so many things, but sometimes they can get nervous and just rush through their book. After sharing, we can have a small snack together and then just say goodbye. They whole event will only last about 30 minutes. This week the children completed the reading portion of the MAP test. Next week on Thursday and Friday we will do the Math section. The children have grown so much this year it is exciting to watch them persevere at this computer assessment. We candled the chicken eggs for the last time on Friday. We saw 4 developing eggs! This is so exciting. The eggs should hatch on Thursday. We are busy getting the brooder ready for the baby chicks. I hope to have the chicks with us in the classroom for at least a week. What a wonderful way to finish Kindergarten. Thank you for sending back the permission slip for our very quick walking field trip to see the chickens. It was so generous of Joe Pittman to invite us to visit his coop. I hope I haven't forgotten anything. Always remember you can contact me with questions and concerns anytime.
