Have a wonderful weekend. Hopefully it will be sunny and we can all be outside.
This week we have been learning many things about two special Presidents. We watched Brainpopjr, read books and recorded our knowledge on the charts above. We learned an interesting fact from the book Mr. Lincoln's Whiskers. Ask your child if they remember what made Abraham Lincoln grow a beard. In literacy centers we continued our learning about Washington and Lincoln. We also started learning some of the symbols of America by making a little book. In math centers we are working on addition and coins. The children enjoyed finding the presidents on the money using a magnifying glass. At home the children would enjoy sorting and looking at coins. Maybe you could talk about the names and values of each coin. They could also practice addition using pennies. Thank you for supporting learning at home. Next week we will focus on Dr. Seuss. His birthday is Wednesday, March 2. If your child would like to bring a Dr. Seuss book to school next week that would be great. We have started our writing unit on persuasive writing and will write about our favorite Dr. Seuss book. Please continue to read at home and practice sight words. Sight word knowledge makes reading so much easier. Some of the words we are working on are: they, where, here, said, or, was.
Have a wonderful weekend. Hopefully it will be sunny and we can all be outside.
