We had a wonderful week learning about different holidays and family traditions. The children loved sharing their collages. We saw many similarities and enjoyed learning new things about members of our crew. Thank you so much for helping with the printing of pictures and writing words. In literacy centers this week the children made driedals, made a kinara for Kwanzaa and made a book about Holidays Around the World. In math we finished our unit on 2D and 3D shapes. The children enjoyed making a cube, combining shapes in different ways and sorting shapes. Our next unit in math will be measuring and data. In phonics we have worked hard learning about the h brothers; sh, th, ch, and wh. Ask your child to tell you the story of the h brothers house. This is the time of year that the children just take off in writing. I have been so proud of the growth I am seeing. We are trying to use capitalization, finger space and punctuation. Also, the children have a learning target to write a sentence about how they are feeling about what is happening in their story. Please encourage writing at home. I hope you have a wonderful holiday break. Of course, I will be here Monday and Tuesday, but will not blog again until January. Thank you for the gift of your children in my life. We laugh, learn, play and grow everyday together. (Presents coming home today...check backpacks!)
