Yesterday was such a fun day in Kindergarten. We had many great costumes and lots of pumpkin learning. We started with the question: Does a pumpkin float? Many children thought it would sink because it is so heavy. After discovering that that huge pumpkin actually does float, we transitioned to our tables and predicted and tested many other items. Maybe you can do this experiment at home in the sink or bathtub. After lunch the children estimated how many seeds would be in the pumpkin. Of course we had to find out by counting all the seeds. I loved hearing the discussion as they made groups of 10 seeds at their tables; "We have 10 groups...that is 100!". Finally, we voted on a face for our Jack-O-Lantern and the children helped me carve the eyes, nose and mouth. We will make pumpkin cookies on Wednesday. I also roasted the pumpkin seeds and the children can try them if they want to. We are finishing our Zoology Expedition this week with a study of fish. The children have learned so much about animals. Please make sure you are available next Thursday, November 10 from 9:00am-10:00am to join us for our Celebration of Learning. The children will first perform on the stage and then we will come to the classroom so they can share their books with you. If you can not come to the Celebration, please let me know and I can find an adult for your child.
