It was been a fast week in Kindergarten. We have read many books by James Dean. The children love Pete the Cat and all of his adventures. Our learning target this week was to compare and contrast stories. We first unpacked the word compare: to look closely and see what you see. Then we looked at the word contrast: to see what is different. We have been learning about characters, setting and problem/solution, therefore those are the things we compared. Maybe you could ask your child to compare 2 books. What is alike and what is different? In literacy centers the children persevered to paint Pete the cat. Each Pete is unique and special. We are also working on syllables. The children sorted pictures by the number of syllables. We put our hand under our chin as we say a word and count the number of times our chin goes down. They are really good at this. The children also worked on a few heart words; you and the. So far we have been learning these words; to, do, the, is, was. Next week we will add the weld am. Thank you so much for sending in the items to be buried in the Ecology Garden Experiment. The children loved hypothesising on what might happen to each thing. We drew a diagram of the items, labeled with each child's name, so that we can remember what we buried when we dig it up on Earth Day. We read several books about helping our Earth. Today the children had a substitute so that Ms. Renaux and I could tweak our plan for the Zoology Expedition. Thank you so much Ms. Knox for giving us this day for planning. We are both so excited to start this study of animals. The kick-off will be on Tuesday, September 27 with a visit from the Cricket Petting Zoo. This was a huge hit last year and I anticipate this group will love it too. Our Celebration of Learning is scheduled for the Friday, November 17 at 9:00am. Thank you for putting this on your calendar. It usually lasts about an hour. I hope you have a wonderful week off from school. Please send pictures to me if you have time. It really helps the children share with our crew about the week away.
