During the first week of school we had gone out to our garden and picked a big pumpkin and a small pumpkin. It was so exciting to see them growing. One of our math standards is to explore float and sink. What a perfect way to build excitement..."Let's see if our pumpkins float!". We read a book about the topic and then predicted what might float and what might sink. All the children gathered around and watched...
After introductions, we sorted the toys by size, color and mammal/ not mammal. The children thought of the categories themselves. Finally, we made 2 patterns; clothes/ no clothes and long ears/ short ears. (I think??)
One of our initiatives this year is to reflect on these questions; Who are we serving well? Who are we not serving well? I would like to encourage you to think about these questions and help me to serve each of you well. This might mean sending me a photo of something your family did together for me to share with the class. This happened last week, when a family went to a Cricket match. I showed the picture and we talked about the game and the child's experience there. It might look like, you setting up a time to come into the classroom and share about a tradition in your family. Thank you for thinking on these questions and assisting me in being the best I can be for you.
I hope you are having a wonderful Saturday. It was a lovely day for a bike ride.
Next week we will be reading books by Grace Lin. Maybe you can find some at the library.
