We were all so excited when Carolyn brought in a caterpillar that she found on a dill plant. It quickly changed into a chrysalis and now we will get to see the butterfly emerge. This type of caterpillar will become a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. If you have a spot in your yard, plant some dill, parsley or fennel and you will have caterpillars this summer. Thank you Carolyn for sharing your critter with us! |
Today we had an amazing time on our bug hunt. I gave the children empty baby food jars and we went to the playground on our search. We found 24 bugs, although many of them were worms, but that was OK. Lyla found the biggest beetle! Remie found a metallic looking insect that she was sure was a 'dung beetle'. We wrote and drew our bugs before releasing them back to nature. As you can see above, Lyla is not afraid of a little rolypoly. |
I hope many of you can come to the pen pal playdate on Sunday, May 15 from 3:00-4:00 at Oakhurst ES playground. We have had such fun writing letters this month. I even saw the new word, fondly, on one of my cards!
Field Day is Tuesday, May 17. Our time for outdoor centers is 9-11am. Please put sunscreen on your child before they come to school. There will be water stations outside, but you can also send a water bottle with your child if you desire. I have purple tie dye shirts for the children to wear. We will change into them in the morning. Wearing the same shirt really helps me keep track of everyone. Ms. Henry has planned a fun day for us and I know it will be super.
