Have a wonderful weekend. I hear about some of the exciting things going on in your lives; UGA game between the offense and defense, soccer games, cousins visiting, birthday parties, playdates, special dinners out, etc...sounds busy and fun. See you around Decatur.
This week each child brought in a rock. We looked at the rock and noticed special things about it. We then compared our rock with someone else's rock and wrote about our findings. Finally, our book buddies helped us write stories about our rocks. The children were so excited and engaged with all of this learning. I hope you heard about rocks at home. We also checked on our sunflower plants and our garden many times this week. Everything is so happy because of all the rain. I have only had to water the garden once! This week I started a short unit on poetry. I told the children that poets look at the world in a new way. To try this out we looked at many different items that I brought from home and recorded what our imaginations told us. Today we added, that when looking at something use your heart not just your eyes. I am excited to see how we do as we persevere to write poems. We also had a visitor in our classroom this week. Fluffy aka Nibbles came to stay for 3 days. He is Kinsley's guinea pig, that Devon is adopting. We were all curious if Chester and Nibbles would get along. At first Chester didn't seem to notice him at all and then Nibbles seemed like he did not want to share his cage. It was fun to have an extra pet for a few days. Please put our Celebration of Learning on your calendar for May 21 from 9-10am. We will sing and then move to our room for sharing and eating. This will serve as our end of the year celebration.

About meI grew up in Florida and have lived in Decatur since arriving at Agnes Scott College to get my Mathematics degree. After teaching High School math for a few years, I worked at preschools while raising my 3 sons. I obtained a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education and taught in Dekalb and Gwinnett Counties for 10 years before coming to Westchester when it reopened in 2013. Archives
