Enjoy the beautiful weekend together with your family. Next week is Earth week and we will be doing many fun things having to do with recycling, reusing, and reducing. If your child would like to bring in an empty cereal or cracker type box I will help them make a book using the box as the cover.
This week has been filled with much discussion about living and nonliving things. I love your children because they always push the conversation to levels that I never see coming. They finally decided that actually none of the things we sorted are alive because they are only pictures of living things. How can you argue with that? A teacher friend of mine who works at Oakhurst Elementary asked if I would like to do Pen Pals this year and of course I said "YES"! We started our mini writing unit on letter writing on Monday by responding to your letters written after the Student Led Conferences. The children were so proud to read your nice comments. Then on Tuesday we received our first letters from our new Pen Pals. Mrs. Staton wrapped the letters in student made paper and attached a letter from the whole class. Each student got a letter and a large photo of their new friend. Wow were the children ever motivated to write back. Today, Thursday, I delivered our letters to Oakhurst. We will wait patiently to receive another package. Mrs. Staton and I are hoping to plan a get together in May for both classes to meet at a park. Just a few pictures from our week. We are working on subtraction (take away) in math. Maybe you could ask your child a few subtraction problems while playing with toys or driving in the car. The next picture shows the paper plates we decorated with living things and the last photo shows a yummy dirt bakery.
