Have a nice cold weekend. Hopefully the last cold snap for us.
We spent the week talking about wind, weather and air. We had some great lion days and watched as the lion brought the wind, rain, thunder and lightning. March is like that in Georgia. We read many books about this topic and particularly loved the ones about wind creating energy. The children asked to listen to The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind twice. It is a true story about William Kamkwamba who designed and built a windmill to first provide light and then several years later to pump water from a well. Our centers were cloud pictures, pinwheels and a new poem. We did several experiments about air and how it takes up space and changes size due to temperature changes. Ask your child what happens when air gets cold? Hot? In math we are working on using the symbols for addition and equal to. The children made "Gus the Plus" and "Ellie the Equal Sign". We have had fun making combinations for 10. Each day the children read for 15 minutes. It is wonderful to see their love of books and their reading growth. Next week we will learn about rainbows and leprechauns. We will be designing leprechaun traps in hopes of catching a tricky little leprechaun. We will make "Linus the Minus" and start talking about subtraction.
Have a nice cold weekend. Hopefully the last cold snap for us.
