I hope you have a wonderful weekend. The Mardi Gras Parade is this weekend on Saturday. We will see if I make it there.

This week we have been learning a lot about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Ask your child if they can recall a few facts about our 1st and 16th Presidents. The children enjoyed drawing George Washington and adding a fact about him as well as making a book about Abraham Lincoln. We also reviewed the digraph (h brother) /sh/ by cutting pictures that start with /sh/. Can you ask your child if they know the letters that say /sh/, /th/ and /ch/? They are all getting so good at remembering them! In Math we started looking at height/weight and a touch of capacity. The children are enjoying making their own homemade balance scale, weighing things on a scale, exploring capacity with beans and sending a SeeSaw of comparing objects. We had a special visit this week from the author and illustrator of the new Jack books. Both guys were so entertaining. They had the kids laughing and so excited about reading. Our class had the highest number of book orders of the Jack books! We have had so much fun painting our Valentine's boxes. Thank you Penny and Sofia for bringing in a shoe box. We only need 1 more box! Next week when everyone has painted their box, we will decorate with stickers, doilies, markers and glitter! I love this silly holiday...pink, making hearts, candy...what's not to love? Several parents and a couple of siblings have come in right before lunch and read to the children. They really love this. If you would like to be a mystery reader and then eat with your child one day, please just email me with a day. We will read all about love, Valentine's Day and our real heart next week. What a great way to wrap up our 6 weeks of learning.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. The Mardi Gras Parade is this weekend on Saturday. We will see if I make it there. Don't forget your Valentine cards on Friday, February 14th.
