I hope you have a nice winter break. When we return to school, we will study George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as well as addition and subtraction in math. See you soon.
We moved on to capacity this week. The children have had such fun learning all about measurement during this six weeks. We started by ordering containers from those that hold the least to those that hold the most. The next day we discussed the question above. It was interesting to talk about how something can hold more while actually being shorter than another container. For hands on experience with capacity, the children poured and measured beans, nails, pasta and water. The children were so great at cleaning up before changing to another center. It was a wonderful fun day in Math. We did a very interesting diaper capacity experiment this week. The children discussed which container we should use when adding water to the diaper. They chose the 1/2 cup container. Each child made a hypothesis of how many 1/2 cups will the diaper hold before it leaks. I love what was written above under conclusion: "It holded alot of water. I was wrong but I am OK". So sweet! It is very hard for young children not to erase their guess when it turns out to not be perfect. What a great lesson to learn about being a scientist. We also read about our real heart and what it does in the body. We read that our heart needs exercise to stay healthy and that it beats faster after exercise. In small groups the children exercised and then tried to listen to their heart beats with the stethoscope. This morning the children exchanged Valentines. I love watching them read each card and talk about why they gave a certain one to a certain friend. Sure is fun in Kindergarten.
I hope you have a nice winter break. When we return to school, we will study George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as well as addition and subtraction in math. See you soon.
